Why did you become an attorney?

To help people and solve problems, giving priority to my clients' objectives and needs.  I enjoy puzzles.  Cases and planning projects are puzzles to be solved and completed, always keeping in mind the best interests of my client and what he or she wants to achieve.  I use a combination of estate, trust, business, and tax law, along with litigation, as needed.  I don't mind dealing with difficult people or situations, and I don't just take the cases that are easy winners.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

My experience includes both the complex (sales to irrevocable grantor trusts, limited partnerships, gifting techniques, powers of appointment, revocable and irrevocable trusts, business operating agreements, grats) and the less complex (traditional wills, powers of attorney). I am experienced in sophisticated estate and business planning strategies and committed to staying on the cutting edge of estate, trust, business, and tax law.  My teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University makes me a communicator; this lends itself to explaining to my clients the concepts involved in their legal matters. I provide my clients with legal options and the consequences of those options, but don't try to force a decision.  The ultimate choice is theirs.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

An estates, tax and litigation practice demands technical tax expertise and creativity. I enjoy the strategy, performance, ministry, and philosophy aspects of an estates, tax and litigation practice.

What makes your law firm unique?

We are extremely strategic and creative. We don't do anything without a specific objective in mind and our solutions tend to be out-of-the box. We have both breadth and depth in knowledge of the law and the personnel (lawyers, paralegals and support staff) to carry out your objectives.  We also have computer software for estate administration and tax return preparation, and prepare individual, estate, trust, and partnership returns.

Describe your ideal client.

Someone who is willing to understand that the legal system moves slowly, and that the people involved have their own perspectives. Other than that, everyone is an ideal client.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

Singing, playing musical instruments, hiking, running, gardening, and horseback riding.

Describe your charitable activities.
